Grand Knight’s Letter

Dear Brother Knights,

Brother Knights:
We had a very nice Valentine’s Dinner and Silent Auction. 56 guests & 6 children in attendance. It was a pleasure to have our State Deputy, Dr. Cory Badinger and his wife, Barb, along with State Administrative Assistant Richard Schall and his wife Edith, attend the event. Many thanks to Ken and LuWayne Barnes for all the work they put in as chair couple. The auction raised $2,500, which the Council will use sponsoring four seminarians through Cardinal Muench Seminary (Reese Weber, Sean Mulligan, John Klocke & Paul Kuhn) and five seminarians through Fr. Joji. The scholarships will be delivered at the Refund Support Vocations Program (R.S.V.P.) night at Cardinal Muench on March 27, 2010, with Mass at 5 p.m. and dinner & program following – everyone is invited to attend.
Your Council is serving delicious Lenten Dinners Friday nights in the Nativity cafeteria from 5 to 6:30 p.m. You won’t go away hungry – so let’s all be there, dining and/or working, supporting your Council and its charitable works.
The ND State K of C Convention is in Grand Forks this year. We are selecting delegates at the March business meeting. If anyone is interested in becoming a delegate, please be at the March Business meeting. Thanks for your interest.
March is our month for our Membership Blitz. We are looking for new candidates – have you asked anyone to join lately? The next 1st Degree exemplification is March 18, 7 p.m., at Nativity in the Bethlehem room. Contact David Wilhelmi (701-730-8264) or me (701- 361-7799) if you have any questions or prospective members. We will coordinate with the 1st Degree Team by March 16, so call with your prospects soon! Also, on April 11 there will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree exemplifications at Cardinal Muench Seminary. If you are 1st degree & would like to become 3rd degree, let me know. There is no cost to become a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Vivat Jesus!

February Honors

Knight of the Month:
Congratulations to Pat Keogh for being chosen as the February Knight of the Month. Pat is active in mass as a cantor and choir member and also fills in as altar server when needed. He works at KC meals and special events. He is very attentive to the needs of his family. Pat and his wife Cathy live in Fargo with their daughter Hannah. Thank you Pat for all you do as a Knight, husband, father, and community member.

Family of the Month:
The Nativity Knights of Columbus would like to congratulate Ken and LuWayne Barnes as the family of the month for February. Ken and LuWayne have always been active members of the Knights of Columbus and the Nativity Parish. Most recently they chaired our annual Valentines dinner and silent auction which was a great success in collecting funds for the young men attending Cardinal Munich Seminary in Fargo to help with the cost of their education. We would like to thank Ken, LuWayne, and Chris Barnes for showing us how to walk with Christ.

Altar Server of the Month:

Valentine Dinner

Our Valentine Dinner & Silent Auction at the Holiday Inn was successful, even though our attendance was down. The 4th Degree did a very nice opening; Fr. Kevin spoke on couples and vocations, followed by a brief talk by Bishop Aquila. We raised $2500 from the auction which will be used to give four $500 scholarships to local seminarians as well as help seminarians through Fr. Joji. A heartfelt “Thank You!” goes to all the Knights that solicited or donated items, to all who attended, and to those who purchased items.

At this time we plan to chair this event again, but we are looking to change it up and hopefully increase attendance. We have looked into having the event at the Fargo Air Museum, catering with a barbeque buffet, including the entire family, running from 4:00 to 9:00 pm, providing some entertainment and dancing, trying to get the cost under $25.00. If you have any suggestion or thoughts please feel free to speak to Ken & LuWayne Barnes (kenb@kilands.com), VDSA Chair Couple
